Bathroom tech - the ultimate in quiet luxury

Smart home technology is everywhere but not so widely associated with the ultimate bathroom experience! Here are some of my favourite ways to quietly incorporate technology into a luxury bathroom:

adaptive lighting

Lighting in a bathroom doesn’t always get as much thought as other areas of the home, but achieving the right level of light in the bathroom can really make a difference. A brighter light in the morning is great for waking up and applying make up, but a warmer glow in the evening is usually preferable for relaxation after a long day. Installing smart lighting, such as the Phillips Hue range can set the right light for the time of day.

hands free

With voice technology now frequently present throughout the rest of the home, the possibilities for bathrooms are endless. Virtual-assistants such as Amazon's Alexa devices or Google Home are affordable and easy to use whether play relaxing music as you soak in the bath, listening to a favourite podcast, getting the latest weather forecast so you can dress accordingly or making a note of . Ideal for those who find their best ideas come to them in the shower! they can also be linked to other pieces of tech.

heated and smart mirrors

Heated mirrors are a great solution to steamed up glass, but smart mirrors go even further doubling up as TV screens for streaming services or playing music and AppleScreens, which effectively turn the surface of your mirror into your iPhone.

smart showers and baths

Smart showers have their own app and can link to voice assistants to give you greater functionality and the ability to personalise the shower to your specific tastes for example a pre-set temperature and duration. Baths meanwhile can offer Hydrovescent massage settings Chromotherapy lighting options and autofill features to keep a consistent temperature.

heating…

I always recommend underfloor heating for a bathroom for comfort after a bath or shower, and a heated rail for towels is also essential. I recommend ensuring your towel radiator is separately operational to your main central heating as a warm dry towel is just as important in the summer months. For out of sight storage or spare guest towels you could also consider integrating a warming drawer into a bathroom vanity - see image above.

…and cooling

Depending on your bathroom routine, you could also consider integrating refrigeration options if you like your sun lotion, body moisturiser or face cream cooled, or access to chilled drinks without padding to the kitchen. Cooling drawers can be integrated into bathroom storage too.

privacy

Finally, enjoy the ultimate bathroom experience in total privacy. Switchable or privacy glass turns opaque at the touch of a button or when it detects motion. Especially useful in properties with architecture which encompasses large amounts of glazing, switchable glass ensure certain spaces are kept private.
