briefing a project

Taking a comprehensive project brief ensures the design of a home fulfils an individual or family’s requirements. I invest time to understand my clients’ personal style, lifestyle and aspirations for their property. Site visits, architectural floor plans and photographs all help to form a thorough overview of aesthetic and functional needs. Other considerations such as time scale, budget and any restrictions to be taken into account will also be discussed at this stage. This all culminates in a proposal which recaps my understanding of the brief, along with associated design fees.

concept creation

With a detailed brief in place, the concept design stage is very collaborative and entails floor plans which illustrate proposed furniture layouts and any structural changes that may be required, mood board presentations containing samples of all proposed finishes and imagery of suggested furniture or joinery concepts. Specialist contractors will also be appointed and consulted for their early input to the design.

design development

By this stage a floor plan layout will have been agreed, along with finishes and bespoke furniture or joinery concepts. Remaining furniture, soft furnishings, art and accessories will now be selected for approval; a highly enjoyable process and often one that my clients wish to be involved in. This often involves selecting antiques and artworks, which help to bring warmth and character to a home.

design detailing & specification

With approval of the concept designs, we’ll progress to design detailing. All final bespoke furniture, joinery and interior architecture drawings will be presented, along with final finishes for approval. A schedule containing details of all other approved furnishing elements is also compiled at this stage. Collectively, this detailed information will enable us to gather a fully itemised breakdown of costs aligned to the agreed budget.

implementation project management

The design is now complete, enabling a schedule of works to be outlined and agreed in collaboration with my clients’ appointed contractors. With all onsite requirements met, works can commence! Attending regular site meetings ensures the project is progressing as planned and in alignment with the original design intent and specification. Ordering and procurement of all remaining items from the furnishing schedule will also take place at this point.

Through frequent communication and regular updates, my clients are kept up to speed and consulted on any contractor issues and final snagging before they are able to enjoy their home, in peace.
